Watersports

Scotland is a great place for wild swimming and other watersports. Did you know that the highest sandy beach in the UK (Loch Morlich) is in the Cairngorms?

The area around Kingussie is known as ‘Badenoch’, meaning ‘drowned land’, referring to the ancient seasonal flooding of the upper Spey and the extensive Insh Marshes. Exploring the River Spey by canoe or paddle board as it meanders through these wetlands is a wonderful serene summer experience with jumping fish and waterbirds to spot, before emerging into the wider expanses of Loch Insh. This broadening of the Spey near Kincraig is a popular sailing, windsurfing, kitefoiling and wild swimming spot and occasionally freezes over completely in cold winters.
